Mavis T. Thompson, Esq. was born and raised in the City of St. Louis
and still resides in her childhood home in the Jeff Vander Lou neighborhood.

She graduated from Lutheran High School North, where she was recently inducted into the Hall of Fame. Mavis received her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and Law degree from the University of Missouri.  Mavis was the first African American female to receive the Citation of Merit: The School of Nursing’s highest award.  She is also featured in the “Gains after Lloyd Gaines” display at the Law School.

 Mavis is a graduate of the JFK School of Government at Harvard. She has served as President of the National Bar Association, leading attorneys and judges worldwide.  She has practiced as a nurse; including as a Perinatal Clinician of OB/GYN services at St. Louis Regional Hospital; and as an Adjunct Clinical Instructor at St. Louis University School of Nursing.  Her legal career included; Public Defender, Municipal Prosecutor, Assistant Attorney General for MO Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, and serving on the Appeals Tribunal for the MO Div. of Employment Security. 

  She is very active: in the Mt Herald MBC serving as a Sunday School teacher; a senior status member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and currently serving on the board of Legal Services of Eastern Missouri. 

 Mavis made history as the first African American female to hold two city-wide elected positions; Circuit Clerk and now serving as License Collector, since 2013.  Mavis enjoys International Travel and is a mentor to many.  She lives by her Motto: “Each One Must Teach One”.
